Guest Author Wendy Clinch demoed a number of women's skis for the 08/09 season. The following are some of her high points, with insight into what you ought to be expecting from Atomic skis.
Graphics are a personal choice. And though to me, they're pretty much secondary to performance, I found the graphics on the Atomics somewhat dark and uninspired. Their performance, however, is a different story entirely.
Atomic Cloud 9
At the top of the heap is the Cloud 9, part of the company’s new Cloud series. A lively, resilient ski that replaces the company’s Royal Minx, the Cloud 9 features four flex zones in the front and two in the back. The result is a strong ski with great edge control and right on-the-money turn initiation.
Atomic Heaven's Gate
The more aggressive type of skier might also do well to investigate the company’s Heaven's Gate, the replacement for its Foxy Mama. Featuring a deep sidecut and a wide tip, this is a high performance carving ski that loves to turn. The Heaven’s Gate also features high stability, is easy to maneuver, and is especially forgiving in a wide range of conditions.
