The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Freestyle skiing will see the debut of the Ski Cross competition. This exciting head to head, mass start and all out event will get viewers blood pumping and I'm betting it will attract a lot of television viewers.
Ski Cross Joins Aerials and Moguls
Ski Cross joins the Aerial and Mogul competitions to fill the Freestyle Olympic schedule. Aerials were first seen in Olympic competition in 1994 while freestyle moguls became a sanctioned discipline "way back" in 1992 at Albertville, France.
What we are not seeing this year at the 2010 Winter Games is skiing Half-Pipe competition, but that may come in the future. However, the Olympic Committee moves as slow as forward moving glaciers in an age of global warming.
Now, we have to consider some rules of engagement when we look at top Freestyle Olympic contenders. The disciplines are so training specific and specialized that the only way to rank the leaders is by the individual events.
For example, in general, world class aerialists don't compete in world class moguls, nor in ski cross. Nor do the other discipline leaders interact on that level. So when we look at season championships it is event specific.
Olympic Freestyle Schedule
Check the schedule for Olympic Freestyle events as all 3 will be competed by both men and women. We will look at the Past Performance leader board in each discipline to see who may be the favorite, or who is a viable underdog to watch.
