Vermont ski resorts provide excellent skiing for all levels of skiers, from beginners to experts. This season, ski resort improvements and investments are enhancing most of the top Vermont ski resorts.

Killington
Killington, the largest ski and snowboard resort in eastern North America, celebrates its 50th birthday on Dec. 13, 2008. This summer saw more than $8.4 million in on-mountain improvements, including the new Skye Peak Express, ski trails, efficiency upgrades to one of the world’s most extensive snowmaking system and expanded environmental programs. The new Burton Stash, one of only four that exist worldwide and the only one on the East Coast, is an all natural terrain park with 34 features located off the shoulder of Skye Peak. In addition to the new Skye Peak Express and new trails, a new 500-foot Magic Carpet will be ready at Snowshed.

Pico Mountain
Pico Mountain, entering its 71st season, will have major snowmaking infrastructure replacement to increase operational efficiency and a fresh look throughout the base area.

Stratton Mountain Resort
Stratton Mountain Resort will debut six new glades and trails for intermediates and experts in the Sunbowl. A new Prinoth Sherpa Winch Cat will groom up the steeper pitch trails and a new Prinoth BR350 terrain park cat will carve innovative rails and features at the Tyrolienne Slopestyle course. Stratton is investing a half million dollars in energy efficiency programs including snowmaking. Last year, Stratton has also a half million dollars in energy efficiency programs including snowmaking which last year's $4 million investment increased snowmaking coverage to 95 percent.

Stowe Mountain Resort
Stowe Mountain Resort’s master plan is well under way with a new slopeside luxury hotel and spa, a new base area, an inter-mountain transfer gondola, new trails, a new beginner area, two new high-speed detachable quads, fully-automated snowmaking and exclusive mountainside residences already in place. Now a new Spruce Base Camp, will be Stowe’s central source for skier and snowboarder services.

Smugglers’ Notch Resort
Smugglers’ Notch Madonna Mountain now has Attitude, in glades which added to the 22-and-growing percent of terrain amidst the trees at the resort, most of which were nicely culled ovre the summer. The terrain parks were fitted up with fresh jumps, banks, rails and fun boxes.

Mount Snow
Mount Snow added 150 more new-technology fan guns this past summer. Most of its major trails will be covered by these energy efficient machines. The entire Carinthia mountain face will be dedicated to freestyle this year, with 95 acres of jumps, rails and halfpipes. Mount Snow will also be the only East Coast stop of the AST Winter Dew Tour. The world’s top slopestyle and superpipe competitors will converge on Carinthia January 8 – 11, 2009.

Mad River Glen
Mad River Glen's renovations - don't fret now - will only include upgrades to the bathrooms.

Sugarbush Resort
Sugarbush’s two-year old Gate House lodge has gotten another half million dollar expansion which includes a rooftop slope-side deck with a BBQ and fire pit. With the purchase a new Pisten Bully cat cab, Sugarbush will be the only resort in the East to have cat skiing. This means that when the resort closes its Mt. Ellen in late March Sugarbush's highest peak will become the domain of the 12-passenger cat.

Magic Mountain
Magic Mountain continues to improve the snowmaking operations with increased efficiency through overhauled snowmaking lines and increased capacity. This summer attention was put on improving glade skiing options through increased thinning of off trail areas mountain wide. The Magic card (only $39) gives holders $25.00 midweek lift tickets and $10 off weekends and holidays all season long.

Ascutney Mountain Resort
Ascutney Mountain Resort received good news when the town approved the master development plan for the base of the ski area.

Bromley Mountain
Bromley invested $1 million in capital improvements for the 08/09 season, the bulk of which is going toward an arsenal of HKD sv10 tower snow guns which will increase snowmaking capacity by an additional 30 percent. A new Prinoth BR350 groomer – the ultimate grooming and snow-moving system – will be added to move all that new snow.

Jay Peak
Jay Peak is working on the construction of a new 58-suite Hotel at the Tram base, which will also include updated facilities for skier/rider services.

Burke Mountain
Burke Mountain is featuring a new intermediate terrain park located on Lower Foxes Folly that offers modified terrain and a variety of features.

Bolton Valley Resort
Bolton has installed new snowmaking lines on the main mountain and will be installing new energy efficient snow guns and fan guns. A new state-of-the-art Prinoth Bison snowcat/groomer will join the three groomers already in the Bolton Valley fleet.

Okemo Mountain Resort
Okemo finished the final two trails of the Jackson Gore layout with two black-diamonds - one 1,000 foot and the other will be about 2,600-feet long, with a vertical drop of 850 feet. These new trails add about eight acres to Okemo’s currently skiable 632 acres. Also new is a Laser-guided superpipe cutting, first-in-the-East lift loading and grooming technologies, plus energy efficiencies in snowmaking and other operations.
