Telemark skiing, also known as freeheel skiing, is skiing with a binding that only connects the boot to the ski at the toes, as in cross-country skiing. It is similar to cross-country skiing, but enables the skier to handle steep terrain.

Telemark skis, also known as free heel skis, use a binding where only the toe (hence the free heel term) of the ski boot is attached to the ski.
