Snocator is best optimized on iPhones with GPS capability when the phones are getting data signals or WiFi connections. When skiers have no signal in the backcountry, the GPS functions will still work, but users need to download trail maps before heading to the mountain.
Snocator GPS, Trail Maps, and Snow Reports
While at a covered resort, it is possible to see your current location on a map and what trail you're on most accurately with GPS iPhone. You can plan your next runs using the interactive trail maps and find the nearest on-mountain restaurant or lodge. Another tap on the iPhone and you can check the latest weather forecasts. Off the mountain, you can get snow reports and check out views of the mountain from real-time mountain cams. There's a feature to set up a list of your favorite resorts and track snowfalls.
Sniff Your Friends
Coming soon, according to Useful Networks, is a feature that will help you keep track of friends on the mountain by integrating Sniff, another Useful Networks application in which Sniff users can send a text message and have Sniff map the locations of friends who are also Sniff users. Another coming attraction will allow you to track your runs, speed, and vertical feet and then display it all on a map.
If you have an iPhone you can activate Snocator by one of three ways:
1) Visit the iPhone App Store and search for Snocator under the Sports category
2) Text "snow" to 90999 from your iPhone
3) Simply click this link to launch iTunes on your computer and go straight to the Snocator info page.
