Schedule of Races
The 11 events of the FIS World Alpine Skiing Championships took place during the first two weeks of February 2009 in Val d'Isère, France.
The race calendar includes a men's and a women's Downhill, each preceded by at least two training runs, a men's and a women's Super G, a men's and a women's Giant Slalom, a men's and a women's Slalom, a men's and a women's Super Combined and the Nations Cup race.

Val d'Isere 2009 World Championships Concept
The concept of the World Championships is based on three primary themes:
The "Face to Face": the women's speed events will take place on the " Rhône-Alpes " slope on Solaise directly opposite Bellevarde on which the men's events are to be run.
A Festive Village Atmosphere: A vast program of festivities and entertainments is planned.
Environmental Issues: Present in every phase and every domain of the World Championships project.
Past Resorts and Host Countries
The very first World Championships took place in 1931 in Murren, Switzerland. This year's World Championships in Val d'Isere will be France's third World Championship event following Chamonix in 1937 and 1962.

Val 2009 Awarded the ISO 14001 Certification
Bureau Veritas, has officially awarded this certification to the World Ski Championships as sign of the success of its environmental challenge. Staging the events with a minimal impact on the environment has been a top priority.
