DPS 2011/2012 Skis

A Selection of DPS 2011/2012 Skis

By , About.com Guide

DPS skis aren't the household name ski like the major manufacturers. However, DPS skis have caught the eye and the respect of skiers serious about skiing big lines and skiing the whole mountain.

Founded in 2005 by Stephan Drake and Peter Turner - two ski architects/engineers/dreamers - who came together after years of individually searching for the perfect ski. These guys were dreaming and tinkering Rocker technology before the word even applied to skis and then joined up and applied that Rocker tech to a carbon ski. By the way, Drake was the first to coin the word "rocker" as pertaining to skis.

Through trial and error and long nights at the drawing board Drake and Turner "pioneered the use of aerospace carbon fiber and a sandwich construction to build skis that are lighter, stronger, and more powerful than conventionally-built skis."

Here we are looking at the 2011-12 season and DPS skis are winning awards and picking up attention from word of mouth and skiing forums on the web.

I want to note that DPS may have been born in powder the DPS line covers all-mountain and groomer skis. Also quite cool, is the  interactive ski finder on the DPS web site. Just fill out the ski finder form and you will be put in touch with a representative who knows the DPS skis inside and out and can point you to the DPS ski sure to bring your skiing to a new level.

While DPS skis may be light they are built to last and need to be flexed well. What you see in the DPS 2011-12 line are really good skis and the top of the line are for really good skiers. Note also that you have a choice of either the Carbon+Nano and Fiberglass+Carbon+Bamboo construction. Again - talk to the DPS reps online or by phone.

DPS skis are available in certain retail stores in 8 countries and here in the 10 biggest skiing states. For North America skiers, DPS also fits skis over the internet or on the phone. Called the Factory Direct Demo Program, what happens is, you order skis, ski them for three days, and if you don't like them, you can send them back for a full refund minus shipping both ways.

Following is some information on a selection of skis from the DPS 2011-2012 collection. Read more about these and all the DPS skis.

Lotus 138 - Powder Ski

DPS

The Lotus 138 is the first rockered ski with sidecut ever built. With a patent pending, DPS claims the Lotus 138 is most evolved and tested powder ski on earth. After five seasons of Alaskan Research and Development and four rocker evolutions I think there probaly right.

The Lotus 138 is avaiable in both Carbon+Nano and Fiberglass+Carbon+Bamboo.

Lotus 120 - All Mountain Ski

DPS

The Lotus 120 is The DPS original 120mm (underfoot) powder 'pintail' that started it all. Like the Lotus 138 DPS  the 120 is a product of R&D evoution having a flex pattern and geometry that has been refined over four seasons. Results are an all-mountain ski with built-in powder performance.

Cassiar 80 - Frontside/Park/Touring Ski

DPS

The Cassiar 80 is the narrowest ski of the DPS 2011-12 collection. At 78mm underfoot it is an obvious frontside ski but with the Carbon + Nano construction is ready to take the pounding of running moguls, cutting crud and playing in the park.

Wailer 112RP - Game Changer

DPS

The Wailer 112RP is the champion of the DPS line garnishing more than one best of breed award. DPS calls it the Game Changer, seeing it as the most versatile ski ever built. This DPS one-ski quiver comes fully rockered with an aggressive sidecut and slight camber underfoot. An all day ski DPS sees the Wailer 112RP for morning powder and scooting groomers back to the lift then killing the crud in the afternoon.

The Wailer 112RP is available in both Carbon+Nano and Fiberglass+Carbon+Bamboo.

DPS

The DPS model Yvette 112RP is a women's specific model built around the basic geometry of the Wailer 112RP. Comes in 2 lengths with the same dimensions as the Wailer 112RP. DPS sees the Yvette as the most versatile women's ski ever built ready for powder, grooers and crud.
