Ski Gear Trade-In Options
A good option to consider when buying kids skis is to buy your gear from a ski shop that offers a trade-in program where you return the gear at the end of the season.
It's important to buy gear, including a helmet, that's a proper fit for your child. Having the option to trade in the gear will ensure that your child is skiing with the appropriate length skis, boots that fit well, and a helmet that's the right size.
Used Kids Ski Packages
When purchasing ski equipment for children, keep in mind the flip side of the trade-in options. You may be able to purchase gently used equipment at a discount price that someone else has traded in because their child outgrew it. Also check ski swaps and local sales. Again, you may be able to find a deal.
When buying used gear do be sure to have equipment checked and the skis aligned before your child uses them. That will prevent issues like the binding coming off while skiing, which happened to one young skier I know. Safety always needs to come first.
