Most ski resorts have a variety of spring activities, skiing and non-skiing related, on the schedule. These special events help the ski resorts get some extra mileage out of the season, and provide entertainment for both skiers and non-skiers alike.
Competitions
End-of-season competitions for amateurs are a fun way to test your skills. If you want to try moguls or freestyle skiing, here's your chance. You can even win a prize for doing your first trick or the worst trick, or for having the best or worst outfit, or being the oldest competitor.
Pond Skimming
Pond skimming can more fun to watch than to do, if you don't like getting wet. Anyone can enter, sometimes in a costume, and the goal is to get enough speed going down the hill so you can "skim" the pond and get to the other side without falling in. The faster you ski, the better chance you'll have of making it to the other side of the pond.
Easter Services
Many resorts have Easter sunrise services at the top of the mountain. Sometimes, there's is a complimentary breakfast and/or an Easter egg hunt for the kids.
Retro Day
Jimminy Peak, in Massachusetts, and other resorts have retro days where skiers wear anything (and everything) from fluorescent ski suits and retro ski sweaters to neon jackets and moon boots.
The Sound of Music
Concerts and other musical events are plentiful on the spring ski slopes. Events range from a "Cookies and Cream" concert for kids at Breckenridge in Colorado to the Annual Sunshine Daydream Festival, dedicated to the Grateful Dead, at Vermont's Killington Resort.
