Mt. Baldy is a (black) diamond in the rough.

Ski Resort Review

It is possible to be on the slopes skiing at Mt. Baldy in an hour from LA, yet it offers the most challenging terrain in the country. During the winter season, genuine powder dumps aren't unheard of, while the snow is otherwise consistently nicearea-appropriate snow, soft granular snow.

If steeps, tree skiing, and off-piste are your thing, Baldy is the place. Also, if Apres-ski is your thing, go elsewhere! Baldy is strictly for skiing, not for drinking beer and watching the snow melt!

Slopes are never crowded, as a combination of the lack of attendance, slow lifts, and advanced skiers. So why are you sitting there complaining about the attitude and poor terrain of the other Southern California resorts? Come to Baldy!

The resort offers a slopeside restaurant, which serves very tasty food and is served by an efficient staff, in addition to a "Warming Hut" at the bottom of the slope which dispenses gloves, jackets, hot coco, etc. The lifts are antiquities; they are very slow, but they are some of the most solid lifts you'll ever find.
