Since its founding in the early 80's by physicist and dedicated mountaineer Ron Gregg, Outdoor Research (OR) has been on the cutting edge of 'creating practical, functional tools and solutions to the problems faced by outdoor enthusiasts in the backcountry.'
With a hands on-knowledge of what worked or could fail with disastrous consequences in the backcountry Gregg made what he knew was needed and would stand up to the elements. From the insulated X-Gaiter™, to the non-freezing Water Bottle Parka®, to The Seattle Sombrero™, the most popular Gore-Tex hat on the market, OR became the trusted brand for dependable accessories for outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.
Following the 2003 tragic death of Ron Gregg, OR was acquired by Dan Nordstrom, a Seattle native and outdoor enthusiast. Under Nordstrom's direction, OR continued the no compromising commitment to excellence that is the cornerstone of Outdoor Research's success and expanded it into a full line of men’s and women’s apparel.
Guaranteeing that commitment to excellence, the 'Lab Rat' program was implemented, whereby feedback from customers is sought and directed into the R&D of the company products. Check out how you can become an OR Lab Rat.
Here's what the crew at OR has to say about what's new and exciting in the 2011-2012 line of ski jackets and pants:
"For Fall 2011, Outdoor Research introduces its broadest ski apparel collection yet, with 27 different styles of men's and women's outerwear and gloves built specifically for skiing.
The Igneo Jacket and Pant, each available in men's and women's styles, offers exception performance with a price tag that still keeps costs in check.
The Igneo offers a waterproof/breathable Pertex Shield exterior melded with lightweight synthetic insulation inside, so it offers both weather protection and warmth for the slopes. It offers a relaxed, modern cut for skiing in bounds at the resort or in the adjacent sidecountry."
Remember also, although you'll probably never need it - OR’s Infinite Guarantee™ - if, at anytime, any OR product fails to meet your needs, you can exchange or return it.
Following is some information on a selection of ski jackets and pants from the Outdoor Research 2011-2012 collection. Read more about these and all the OR lineup of clothing and gear.

The Stormbound jacket is what it says - if your bound to ski in a howling and blowing storm this is the jacket for you. Outside is a two layer Waterproof and breathable 40D Pertex® Shield ripstop fabric protecting the 650 fill down insulation in the body and 60g of EnduraLoft™ synthetic below the powder skirt and in the collar. The removable helmet compatible hood also gets filled with the 650 down. Fully taped seams and water-resistant zippers with a double separating front zipper keep the snow and water out.
My favorite add-on with the Stormbound was brought to my attention in a OR video with OR consultant and Stormbound jacket fan, Mike Hattrup. Mike and I wear the same hairstyle so when he showed the Stormbound's zip-out Thermodynamic™ balaclava for under helmet protection from the elements and the balaclava's internal tuck-away pocket I knew this jacket is meant for heavy duty, storm bound skiing.
