Ready To Hike the Wild Snow

Hiking the Wild Snow

Copyright Mike Doyle
With the AT boots hiking and skinning is as much a part of the backcountry experience as finding a nice bit of snowed downhill that nobody has ever skied before. In snow conditions varying from hard packed, to ice, and to powder, the need for a custom footbed to help flatten the foot to prevent catching an edge is not a major concern as on groomed runs. However, the need to still be comfortable in your boots after hiking 2 miles to ski an 1/8 of a mile is a major concern.

Hal said I would appreciate the Masterfit Instprint Custom footbeds when I got where I wanted to ski, but I would appreciate them twice as much after I hiked back from where I wanted to ski. My feet told me he nailed that one, too.
