When the footbed was conformed to my foot Hal applied a foam posting shell to the bottom of the insole. These posting shells come in varying consistentcies according to application and skier use. Hal explained that a racer would want a hard, firmer base underfoot for better boot to ski reflex.

However, the racer is only using these for the shortest possible time and can sacrifice comfort for performance. The recreational skier who will wear – and walk in the boots – will want a shock absorbing, more flexing, and comfortable post shell as in the photo.

Although the Instapost posting shells are pre-marked for alignment positioning these posting shells must be precise. In this phase there is a signicant amount of precision grinding to bring the footbed to a finished product and it is an important part of a good bootfitter’s training.
