How to Become a Ski Bootfitter

By , About.com Guide

Moving A Little Deeper Into The Craft

One thing about the Masterfit U courses is you are going to flooded with useful information coming at you from more than one instructor and all of it is good. In the Associate course I attended, Bill Haight, a certified Pedorthist from Green Mountain Orthotic Lab and Nick Blaylock, currently with skibootfitting.com were the principal instructors and both were very good at lecturing and demonstrating. However, based on your in shop experience some of the material they covered may have been hard to assimilate. Not to worry, the handbook that accompanies the course is invaluable for future reference, and goes deeper into all aspects of everything the instructors have covered.

What time doesn't allow to be covered in class is reviewed in the book. Easily readable and understandable, with accompanying photos, this is a beginner bootfitters bible with the best ski boot fitting and sales information culled from sixteen plus years of Masterfit University teaching and experience.

First Step On A Career Path

If you love to ski, if you love to be in the mountains, and want to work in the ski industry then a career as a competent bootfitter will keep you employed not only during the season, but quite possibly year round. The sales and customer service skills you learn in the Masterfit U Associate course are transferable to many retail venues. The specific bootfitting skills are adaptable to hiking, skating and running where adding footbeds is also a compliment.

When it comes to getting your foot in the door in the ski boot business the Masterfit U Associate course is well worth the investment and is recognized by most ski shops. To make your way into the business a little easier Masterfit U graduates are highly sought after by over 100 ski shops affiliated with America's Best Bootfitters - an organization of select independent U.S. and Canadian ski and snowboard shops specializing in custom bootfitting.
