When you take your family on a Northstar-at-Tahoe ski vacation, the skiing is great, with plenty of terrain for the entire family. In addition, there's a full schedule activities, so there are plenty of vacation activities, both on and off the slopes.

There are activities and events both on the mountain and in Northstar Village, which is located right at the base of the mountain. Many are free, others are low cost. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, winter activities include ice skating, tubing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and a variety of special events. Here are the top 10 Northstar family ski vacation activities.

Top Family Ski Vacation Activities at Northstar

Ski and Ride Northstar. Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort has terrain for all level skiers and riders. Mt. Pluto and the Northwest Territory both offer beginners and intermediates the opportunity to get up to some nice easy cruisers. Yet, Mt. Pluto also offers nice drop-in black diamond runs. The terrain parks and the half and super pipes are nationally rated. In fact, Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort is home to the first of the famous Burton designed parks known as "The Stash" of which there are only five worldwide.

Take a Ski or Snowboard Lesson. Regardless of what level you’re at or how old you are, the Northstar Ski & Snowboard School has lesson programs for toddlers on up. Beginner lessons are available for ages and there free lessons for advanced intermediate and above skiers/riders (restrictions apply).

Ice Skating - Skating is free at the Northstar Village outdoor skating rink, skate rentals are only $5, and the open fire pits - great for roasting s'mores or relaxing with a glass of mulled wine - in the warming area accent the family and friends feeling of the resort.

Fast Food to Fine Dining. There are over ten eateries in Village at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort on two levels. Options range from Belgian waffles to French hot dogs to a sit down gourmet restaurant with an extensive wine list. There's also a small convenience store, so if you're staying at the village you can purchase essentials.

Shopping at Northstar Village. You'll find galleries and fine jewelry, ski shops, and souvenirs in the Northstar shops. Stores are open in the evening, so there's plenty of time to shop after you're done on the mountain.

Geocaching Adventures. Go on a geocaching snowshoe adventure and find caches located in Northstar's Cross Country, Telemark, and Snowshoe Center. The price is $55 for trail pass, snowshoe rental and GPS rental. Guests with an alpine or cross-country/snowshoe season pass and snowshoes can rent just the GPS for $10.

Northstar Adventure Parks. You have your choice of two Kids' Adventure Parks at Northstar - Jib Park and Mineshaft.

Bungy Jumping. The Apex Bungy is open all year. It features a Bungy Trampoline, where kids and grown-ups alike can take a turn flipping and flying.

Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides. Horse drawn sleigh rides are available right in Northstar Village on select dates. Or, there are a variety of sleigh (and dog sled) rides to choose from in the local community.

Tubing. As long as your child is 36" tall, he or she can join you in tubing at Northstar. You can hold on to your little one's tube, but only one person per tube is permitted. Reservations are highly recommended and rates vary.
