Definition: Ski BASE jumping is a variation of the extreme sport of BASE jumping in which a participant, wearing a parachute jumps off a stationary object. After a brief free fall the BASE jumper activates the parachute and floats to the ground.

BASE (B.A.S.E) is an acronym of the possible stationary locations to jump off, B - a building, A - an antenna (like a cell tower or a radio mast). S - is for a Span such as a high bridge crossing a canyon and E - is for Earth such as a cliff.

In Ski BASE jumping the jumper skis off a cliff with a parachute on, in most cases releases the skis and lands. The BASE jumping cliffs are usually so high that the jumper could not survive a landing without slowing down the speed of falling using a parachute.

Some Ski BASE jump locations allow the Ski BASE jumper to land with the skis on, bundle the parachute and ski off. The highest recorded survivable ski jump without a parachute has been in excess of 220 feet.
