Avalanche Beacons (Avalanche Transceivers)
Avalanche beacons, or avalache transceivers are battery operated devices that emit a signal when in the transmitting mode and can locate that same frequency signal (457 kHz) when in receiving mode. Carrying and using the beacon is the most effecient of locating, or being located in the event of ann avalanche burial. A beacon should always be carried on the person when walking, hiking, skiing or snowboarding in avalanche prone terrain, especially in territory not subject to avalanche control mediation.
