Holiday Gifts for Skiers

By , About.com Guide

Do you need a gift for your favorite skier or perhaps something to add to your holiday "wish list"? Here is a selection of my choices for holiday gift giving - or receiving.

A Family Ski Vacation

Mike Doyle

This ski season you can find family ski vacation deals for resorts around the country. Destination ski resorts are really reaching out to families with travel, lodging and skiing packages and you can find some real savings right at home as local areas offer enticing "staycations."

Treat the entire family to a gift that will create lifelong memories and make snow skiing a family tradition.

Julbo Photochromic Ski Goggles

Courtesy Julbo

Julbo Orbiter - First Class series goggles are at the top of my list pursuing the best one-goggle-quiver for varying light conditions. Photochromatic lens, excellent ant-fog properties and the lens is spherical for better peripheral vision. Extender strap for even the biggest helmet and a tacky strip to keep them from sliding off. You'll hear more about these later.

Bausch + Lomb Anti-Fog Lens Treatment

Courtesy Bausch + Lomb

If you don't have a factory applied ant-fog coating on your present goggles here's a reliable lens cleaning and anti-fog treatment application from Bausch + Lomb. Easily applied and lasts for a day of clear vision skiing. Comes in small individual packets and makes a great stocking stuffer for Santa.

Helmet Compatible Zion Earbuds

The Zion Earphones by The House of Marley come with 52" fabric cord long enough to reach any jacket, or even pant pocket and it wasn't affected by the cold as a plastic cord would be. The in-ear piece was angled so the helmet ear protection didn't press on them and - guess what - the volume control worked great.

A New Pair of Skis

Courtesy Rossignol

The Rocker ski technology is growing every stronger and is now evident in every manufacturers line-up of skis for the 2011-12 season. There's a ski here for everyone on your list.

Ski Boots

Courtesy Lange

The skier on your gift list, especially if it's you, will be wowed by all the choices in boots this season. For example, Atomic, Lange, Fischer, Rossignol, Tecnica, Surefoot, and Salomon all have new and returning models for this season.

Ski Lessons and Clinics

Mike Doyle

As I always say, "Take a Lesson" regardless of the level skier you are and lessons make a great holiday gift. Remember that the best skiers in the world like Lindsey Vonn and the U.S. Ski Team are coached on a daily basis.

Almost every ski resort offers ski lessons from professional ski instructors and many have specialty clinics and programs targeting certain skills - moguls - and groups - ladies teaching ladies, for example.

Grandoe Custom Ski Gloves

Here's a unique, custom design, one-of-a-kind ski glove by Grandoe. When I say unique, I mean you can't get any more unique because, you are the designer and you make choices as to what colors go where.

Men's Ski Jackets

Courtesy Outdoor Research

With the synthetic, lightweight EnduraLoft insulation and the waterproof and breathable outer Pertex Shield fabric the Outdoor Research Igneo makes for comfortable skiing on both cold bluebird days and days when it's snowing and blowing. It's a great present for your favorite skier.

Skiing iPhone Apps

Ski Tracks
There are a variety of skiing, ski resort, and snow conditions apps available for your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. You can download apps that will give you information on gear, ski and snow conditions, open lifts, weather, trail maps, and directions to both U.S. and international ski resorts. Makes for a great gift and helps your favorite skiers to know where they are.
