Glacier Skiing

What to Expect and What to Wear

By Mike Doyle, About.com

What to Expect While Glacier Skiing

Glacier skiing in the summer is a lot like spring skiing. In the morning, conditions will be hard, but during the afternoon, conditions can become very slushy. Make sure that you consider spring skiing tips while glacier skiing. The most important thing to remember is to wear sunscreen and stay hydrated - the sun can be very strong on glaciers, and it can get very hot. Make sure that you are prepared for spring conditions.

Glacier skiing isn't just for experts, so there is terrain for everyone. Most glaciers are not as big as large ski resorts, but glacier skiing does give you an oppurtunity to enjoy warm skiing during the summer months.

What to Wear While Glacier Skiing

Because most skiers glacier ski during the summer, dress for spring conditions. Plan to bring your lightweight spring gear. However, make sure that you pack an extra insulating layer in case the temperatures drop. Wearing gloves and helmet/hat is a good idea, and using ski goggles or sunglasses is a must to protect your eyes from the sun.
