The first official skiing competition got under way on the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics Moguls course with the first women's qualification round.
On the hard, fast and said-to-be icy course, the U.S. Ski Team's Hannah Kearney finished first. As has been happening throughout the Audi FIS World Cup Moguls competition, Kearney had two of the Dufour-Lapointe sisters on her ski tails - Chloe (second)and Justine (third).
With this first women's Qualification run of 30 skiers in the books, the top 10 finishers now pass on to the First Final. The remaining 20 mogulists ski again in a second Qualification, scheduled for Saturday morning, from which the top ten in that round move to the Saturday evening First Final of 20 competitors.
Under the Sochi Olympic Mogul format, the top 12 in the First Final move to a second Final. The top 6 of that second Final move to the medal run in a third or super Final from which the top three will make up the gold, silver and bronze medal winners.
