The Outdoor Retailer Show's All Mountain Demo day was hosted by Solitude Mountain Resort and brought together a lot of vendors with a lot of really cool gear and accessories, not just for skiing but for the full winter sports community.
Yes, I did spend a lot of time drooling over the 2013-14 skis being previewed and demoed, but there were a lot of interesting happenings, especially related to side/backcountry touring. Avalaunch teamed up with Be Snow Smart and the Utah Avalanche Center to host the activities in the Solitude Beacon Search Area where iconic Big Mountain skier and Alaska heliskiing pioneer Dean Cummings set the bar for time trials of beacon searching.
You are going to love all the new graphics and engineering in the 2013-14 skis. Salomon is awash in colors for next year as are offerings from Atomic and Moment. The Moment Deathwish was a huge hit last season and returns with the Dirty Mustache rocker technology.
New boots from Scarpa and Dynafit drew big crowds as did all the wide, rockered skis geared to the trend in popularity of back/sidecountry touring. Ortovox was debuting its line of ABS avalanche airbags and a new 'entry level' beacon that is very easy to use especially in a stressful situation.
The Outdoor Retail Show now moves inside where everything you can think of that is related to winter sports will be on display - more on the inside stuff later.
