Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team's Road to Vancouver is a documentary that chronicles the training and preparation of selected US Ski Team members leading up to what they hope will be the biggest and best day of their young lives - standing on the top step of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics podium. But getting to that top step, and even getting a chance to be in an Olympic race is a long, hard road. A road that this film takes us on along with the racers.
The film picks up the athletes quest for Olympic gold last summer in training camp in Portillo, Chile and Saas Fee, Switzerland. Think about that for a minute. Months after you and I had put our skis up and were relaxing on a nice beach the prospective U.S. Ski Teamers were skiing 70 plus miles an hour and trying to suck whatever oxygen is available 10,000 above sea level!
These young people are chasing a dream that many of us may have had for a brief, fleeting time in our lives but these guys and girls know they are so close to fulfilling this dreams. So close they can taste it and smell it and you know what - it taste and smells like sweat and tears. Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team's Road to Vancouver brings this sweat and tears, and a little blood, up close and personal.
Audi of America, a major sponsor of the U.S. Ski Team, commissioned this film and brought in multiple-award winning director Brett Morgen to film it. The film will open your eyes to the hard work on and off the snow these athletes go through. Morgan captures the Team as a family - a real family with a child for Sarah Schleper. However, as close and supportive of one another as teammates can be there is always the suspense and drive for those few, cherished Olympic team spots. Musical chairs on racer sharp skis - you just wish everybody could go.
You may know by now who, on the U.S. Ski Team, is going to Vancouver but watch this movie and see what they had to do to get there.
Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team's Road to Vancouver will air Saturday, January 30 at 8pm EST on NBC, followed by an appearance on the USA Network on February 6 at 5pm EST. It will also run three times in prime time on the Universal Sports Network.
