Fredrik Ericsson Looks to Ski K2

Wednesday June 10, 2009
Swedish professional "ski adventurer" Fredrik Ericsson with his Italian friend Michele Fait are on their way to try to climb and ski the world’s second highest mountain K2 (8612m).

Fredrik and Michele are currently approaching 6069m Laila Peak in Pakista,n which they will try to summit and ski down as part of training and acclimating before attempting K2.

According to Fredrik's web site, in 2005 he and Jörgen Aamot made two attempts to climb and ski the northwest face of Laila Peak. However, on both occasions the top section was too icy to ski, but they were able to ski from about 150m below the summit down to the Gondogoro Glacier. No one has yet to ski from the summit of Laila Peak.

The plan, after Laila Peak, is to arrive at K2 base camp around June 20. Then Fredrik and Michele have about three weeks of further acclimatization before trying for the summit via the south-southeast ridge.

Follow the progress as Fredrik will regularly post updates and photos.
