Don't Forget to Check Your List

Monday December 22, 2008
If you've gotten all the way home and found that your favorite ski pants never made the gear bag, don't scratch them off as being gone forever. Most resorts have a Lost and Found department, and many keep a well organized log with the item, the date found, and identifying characteristics such as size, make and model, color, etc. So, it's possible to call the ski resort Lost and Found, describe the item and approximate date lost, hopefully recover your forgotten items, and even have them mailed to you.

This system really works. Yesterday, my daughter lost one of her ski gloves. It was found in short order at the Lost and Found. She also lost her new North Face ski pants a week or so ago, which, of course, didn't have her name on them. While packing for another trip, I noticed they were missing and called the last place we skied. They had found the pants. That day, they also found four pairs of boots, some poles, and two pairs of skis.

So, always call if you've lost something. To save time and aggravation, check your list before you leave home, and bring your skiing checklist with you to double-check that you have everything before you leave the mountain.
