It's hard to believe that winter isn't officially here yet. Many ski areas around the country have been blessed with cold autumn nights for snowmaking, and winter-like clipper storms that have added a good deal of the real stuff.
As I've mentioned, I am heading out to Lake Tahoe shortly for a family vacation to ski in the New Year. To put everybody's mind to rest about snowfall amounts, Mother Nature is cranking up the snow storm cycle that sends some real dumps across the Sierra Range.
Northstar-at-Tahoe and Squaw Valley USA are reporting 2 - 3 feet on the ground. Heavenly has 2 feet plus and it is still dumping - check this video at Heavenly from yesterday. Kirkwood, Mammoth, and all the southwest resorts off the Lake are also getting hammered.
Personally, I wasn't worried about snow being there when I get there in two weeks. After all the 17th Annual Snow Gods Ball at Squaw Valley USA isn't until this Saturday.
If you're think of heading west, there are a number of really good deals for the holidays and after in the Lake Tahoe region and to get you there, the airlines are starting to offer some excellent fares, as well.
