Lights, Camera, Action - Santa Turns On the Ski Channel
Steve Bellamy, Chairman and CEO of The Ski Channel, announced today that the network will launch on December 25th - making the network available to over 15 million digital U.S. households.
“It has been an incredible month for us,” said Bellamy. “We closed a significant capital raise. If we close all the ad deals on the table – we will hit our first years number before we launch, we have added a ton of incredible programming, we will be announcing more distribution shortly and we are launching on Christmas Day!"
In the run up to the premier date, The Ski Channel has corralled an all-star lineup of corporate partners including Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Brighthouse Networks, Panasonic, Marquis Jets, Fender Guitars, Mirage Resorts, Rage Films, Ride Guide, World Heli Championships, Teva Mountain Games, Level One Productions, Skiers World, and Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley.
Bellamy also announced today that the network has additionally signed multi-year distribution agreements with two more major broadcast carriers -DIRECTV and Verizon FiOSTV. Verizon FiOSTV is currently available to more than 8.2 million homes in 14 states and DIRECTV, the nation's leading satellite television service provider, presents wireless television experience to more than 17.1 million customers.
The Ski Channel will be the only national television network devoted to the wide variety of year-round mountain activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, backpacking, climbing, etc., along with many off-slope activities. If you love skiing it's pretty much a given that you also love a lot more about the outdoors. The fact that The Ski Channel has extended its programming beyond its name, to cover what we all find great about the great outdoors, will guarantee it will be on the preset buttons of millions of remotes.
Oh! To sweeten the Christmas pie a little more, Steve Bellamy also announced a deal with Mountain Sports Media to broadcast on The Ski Channel some of the most famous films in skiing, from the Warren Miller Entertainment library, as well as Mountain Sports Media television series Thrills and Spills.
I'm not saying I won't be skiing on Christmas, but you can bet I'll be watching a little TV during the day.
