It's Crunch Time For Ski Season Fitness
While it's always a good to have some year round aerobic activity it's really beneficial, before ski season starts, to get into a routine that incorporates some ski specific exercises. Ski specific exercises are those that work, stretch and strengthen the muscles we use in skiing - especially those muscles used in skiing that we don't utilize very often in our daily activities or even in out aerobic workouts.
With the way the weather is already shaping up, I think it's safe to to assume that most of us will have some local skiing available by mid-December, at the outside. If you can put aside a half-hour for a ski specific routine a few days a week, you should be looking at starting ski season ready for long enjoyable ski days, restful nights, and feel-great mornings ready to do it all over again.
Andrew Hooge, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist has been providing a ski specific exercise video here, each week for the past month. Now, Coach Hooge has produced a 30 minute ski specific exercise routine video - Terrain Tune Up - designed for the skier who has only 4-6 weeks before they hit the slopes.
What is really convenient about Terrain Tune Up, is that for $4.99 you can download the video from FitSkiing.com and workout five minutes later. I've worked the routine and can say that it will definitely improve cardiovascular fitness and increase both power and strength endurance. Here's a review of how and why.
