Killington Opens Today - Mount Snow Yesterday
Killington Ski Resort Communications Manager Tom Horrocks announced that Killington is opening as a result of a massive snowmaking effort by resort employees during the past couple days of freezing or near-freezing temperatures, resulting in snow coverage sufficient for good skiing and riding. Overnight Tuesday, Horrocks said, Killington Peak received 10 inches of snow.
Two lifts, the K-1 Express Gondola and the Northridge Triple, will be open Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, shuttling visitors up to six open intermediate and advanced trails covered in a machine-made base layer, anywhere from 18 to 30 inches deep. Beginner level trails will not be open.
Adult lift tickets are $65 (ages 19-64); $52 for young adult (13-18); $52 senior (65-69); $46 for junior (6-12) and super senior (70+). Monday hours will be 9 am to 4 pm, weather permitting.
Also getting honors in the Northeast for opening early, Sunday River opened Friday and Mount Snow yesterday. Lift tickets at Mount Snow were sold for $10, with all proceeds donated directly to the Guy Hawkins fund. Over $1,800 was collected and will assist local cancer patients and their families.
All three resorts plan on continuing operations, at least on weekends, weather permitting.
