Ski Resort Happenings and Events

When you are looking for things to do this summer, don’t forget your favorite ski resort. Many resorts offer four season activities and the support we give our local and favorite resorts in the off-season can only help expand and improve winter facilities. Here are this week’s featured resorts and a little of what’s happening on the mountains:

Northeast

• Blue Knob Ski Resort, PA - Wednesday is Ladies Day at Blue Knob Golf Course and that means savings on the Green Fees. The Blue Knob trails are now open for serious mountain biking and you might want to check out the summer lodging packages available after an all day bike session.
• Hunter Mountain, NY - Coming August 9 & 10 to Hunter is the Hunter Mountain German Alps festival. This summer taste of the famous Munich Oktoberfest will be followed by the International Celtic Festival on August 16 & 17, featuring fantastic entertainment from the Emerald Isles, plus world-class Irish-American bands.

Mid-Atlantic

• Cloudmont Ski & Golf Resort, AL - Cloudmount offers golf, horseback riding, and hiking all summer long, or rent a chalet for a quiet getaway.
• Bryce Resort, VA - Bryce Resort offers summer grass skiing with lessons available. There is also mountain tubing, water sports at the 45 acre Lake Laura, horseback riding, and golf.

Midwest

• Afton Alps, MN - At Afton Alps, it is Snow Balls to Golf Balls activities, Season pass holders can purchase a reduced price golf membership. Mountain Biking is open every day.
• Huff Hills, ND - This Sunday is Mountain Biking Day at Huff Hills, lift served from 2 pm - 8 pm. On August 30, don't miss an afternoon and evening of blues music with a Chicago blues band.

Rockies

• Brian Head Resort, UT - A summer at Brian Head includes mountain biking, disc golf, and hiking from the top of the Giant Steps Chairlift. There is a summer full of events and festivals to please everyone at this family friendly resort. If you are up for it try America’s richest XC/Endurance Mountain Bike Stage race - The American Mountain Classic-Brian Head August 21 -24.
• Grand Targhee, WY - Summer time at Grand Targhee is mountain living at its best, activities include mountain biking, hiking and music in the open air. Among the music festivals for 2008 is the 4th Annual Targhee Fest, July 18 -20 featuring Emmylou Harris and the 21st Annual Bluegrass Festival, August 8 -10.

Far West

• Silver Mountain Resort, ID - Take a high-speed gondola ride to Silver Mountain's Amphitheatre for the Silver Mountain 2008 Concert Series featuring Ted Nugent on July 27. Other summer activities include chairlift rides, disc golf, kayaking, fly fishing, shopping, antiquing, and ATVing, all from the comforts of the Gondola Village.
• Mammoth Mountain, CA - This summer at Mammoth Mountain visit the Bike Park - 100 plus miles of dirt single-track descending 3000'. Play a round at Sierra Star Golf Course, the highest course in California. Also on the event calendar is the August 15 -17 Mammoth Festival featuring live music, wine tasting, regional fare and local artist expo.
