Skiers Get A Snowy 4th of July Firecracker
Last Friday was a beautiful day for fireworks around most of the United States, as we celebrated the 4th of July. However, for over a hundred skiers there was one special Firecracker -the 4th of July Firecracker modified Giant Slalom race at Snowbasin, Utah. That's right folks - skiing and racing on the 4th of July.
This is the second time snow conditions were favorable enough high up on Snowbasin's Middle Bowl Cirque to organize this fun event. 103 people ponied up a $25 entry fee that covered the gondola ticket, a T-Shirt, plus entry in the drawing for a summer season pass, and dinner for two at The Around the World Chef Series.
Weather was great, race time was 10AM and the modified, NASTAR type slalom went off without a hitch. Barbecue and beverages were available on Earl’s Plaza and dining at Needles Lodge with day long live entertainment by The Kap Bros.
I can tell you Brittney Thompson took the Gold Medal, but be assured that everybody on the mountain was as Red, White and Blue as it gets.
I wish I was there, just think, skiing on the 4th of July, on the "Greatest Snow on Earth" in the mountains of the Greatest Country On Earth - and here are some more photos that will make you wish you were there, too.
