Ski Club of the Week - Wichita Ski Club

Sunday February 17, 2008
Wichita Ski ClubWhen many ski clubs were in their formative years, back in the 60's, 50's, or earlier, a bus trip to a ski area was a pretty common way to quickly move members to ski areas. But, think about the topography around Wichita, Kansas and tell me the founding members of the Wichita Ski Club in the 1950's weren't some really dedicated skiers.

It wasn't until the 70's, that the club obtained a sleeper bus and you know, some of those 30 or so troopers are still around, including "founding fathers and mothers" J.D. Frederick, Ileen Penna, Virga Chapman, Lou Myers, and Nancy Myers.

Now, the Wichita Ski Club has over 300 members and with a Prestige Sleeper Bus, ski trips are offered to many big mountain destinations. The fun doesn't stop when the snow stops in Wichita, that's for sure. The Wichita Ski Club provides year-round sports and social activities for those in the Wichita, Kansas area and beyond.

Activities not only include ski and snowboard trips and racing, but also white water rafting, hiking, biking, all kinds of boating, canoeing, campouts, cookouts, and many other parties and gatherings throughout the year.

Membership is $35 for single or $50 for families, which makes the affordable fun available to all. There are two regularly scheduled monthly get togethers. The first Tuesday of each month is Skier Night Out where the club socialize at various clubs and restaurants, and the third Tuesday of each month is the general meeting at a local club or restaurant.

The Wichita Ski Club newsletter The Flatlander is available by e-mail and by snail mail. if you need any more coaxing to join the Wichita Ski Club check out the Flatlanders's "reasons to join..."
