Ski Club of the Week - The Swiss Ski Club of New York
The Swiss Ski Club (SSC) of New York describes itself as "A large international group centered in the New York metropolitan area...members and friends are primarily single...though couples aren't frowned upon..." This sounds like a ski club that knows how to have a good time - and they've been having a good time since 1939.Don't let the name fool you, the club founders were Swiss living in New York, but the club members are now of varied heritage. While most members and friends are U.S. citizens and residents, the club continues to enjoy an international flavor.
The Swiss Ski Club has a lodge in Waitsfield, VT, near the Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas. In addition to the weekend trips to Vermont, the Club makes an annual international trip, this year to St Anton, Austria.
In the New York City area, there are other events and activities throughout the year – such as picnics in Central Park, group theater trips, the celebration of Swiss National Day on August 1, and much more on the calendar.
You don't have to be a member to ski with the SSC, but they would like to meet you at one of their NYC meetings, first. Membership in the SSC is by a vote of the members, after attending two meetings in New York City and three weekends at the lodge in Vermont.
