The other day, as thousands of spring skiers in the Northeast, myself included, gingerly made their way down narrowing ribbons of snow, ski resorts in Utah were announcing anticipated closing dates based on – lack of skiers. It seems that natives in Utah got bit hard by the spring bug this year, even though in the Utah mountains there may still be 140 inches ( that’s over 11 feet for all you nor’easters who are scraping mud off your skis today).

Most major resorts in Utah are closing in two weeks. However, to prove there really is a lot of snow, Snowbird Resort, only 25 miles from downtown Salt Lake City will be open daily through May 14 and weekends through May 29. For those in the northeast that means skiing on Memorial Day weekend! However, if the folks at Snowbird (with an average of 500 inches of annual snow) are lonely right now I know a bunch of people, myself included, who would love to be there.
