Austrians First in Men’s and Women’s Downhill Races

Michaela Dorfmeister of Austria finished first in the Women’s World Cup downhill at St. Moritz, Switzerland, with her teammate Renate Goetschl second and Janica Kostelic of Croatia third. Lindsey Kildow (Vail, CO) who was seventeenth had the top U.S. finish.
In Kitzbuehel, Austria, countryman Michael Walchhofer won the famed Hahnenkamm downhill, with Marco Buechel of Liechtenstein second by .05 second. Finishing third was Daron Rahlves of the U.S., followed by teammate and defending World Cup leader Bode Miller.
